Flying Gear

So, having decided to take flying lessons once I get the latest production with the drama group over with, I decided in the meantime to get an order in for all the groundschool gear. Blimey there’s a lot of it. 8 books, flight planning pad, logbook, kneeboard, timer, audio tape, some computer-based training, a flight computer etc etc. OK, I won’t need all of it immediately but by the end of the course it will all have come in handy.

Been flicking through some of the books (The “Trevor Thom” books, aka the Aircraft Pilot’s Manual) and it all looks like it’s going to be quite fun. Have to go and book another lesson for the beginning of April I think.

So much for honesty…

My monthly train ticket to London ran out earlier this week and as I’m on a late shift, I can get away with getting daily off-peak tickets.  Except that one day I forgot, and only remembered just as I was about to get on the tube, having travelled the 40 miles into London without a ticket.  Oops.

So I go to the WAGN ticket office at King’s Cross and ask the very bored looking guy if he can give me a 1-day travelcard from Biggleswade.  He says that the only way he could do that is to give me a £20 penalty fare.

“So, what’s to just stop me walking off, getting a single home tonight, and getting a tube-only ticket right now?”

“Absolutely nothing, sir.”

I walked off, bought my tube ticket and went on my way.  It doesn’t exactly motivate one to be honest about these things though does it?

Trial Flying Lesson

Flying Time: Today: 1:06 Total: 1:06

Well, I went, I flew, I came back - and it was very good indeed!

I went for a trial flying lesson with Bonus Aviation, based out of Cranfield and found them to be very friendly and welcoming. I phoned up about 8:15 and spoke to Jo, their admin/general manager who said that she thought the weather would be OK, but that none of the instructors were in yet. So, I jumped in the car and headed for Cranfield (about 35 minutes for me).

Wordpress

So, having just changed my website again for the umpteenth time with no real content updated - what am I using this time?

I’m now using Wordpress and I’ve upgraded to Gallery 2.  It seems a pretty clean way of doing things.  I’m especially happy I was able to import all my existing posts (via RSS) and also that my Gallery upgrade was pretty easy.  Everything is nicely MySQLified and runs neatly on pretty much any LAMP server (which is what I’m running it on).
Still trying to get my head around trackbacks and pings, but I’m getting there slowly!  I am going to make more of an effort to update this regularly, honest!

Rounded Corners

An excellent little article I came across allowed me to replace the standard “kubrickheader.jpg” that comes with the WordPress default theme. So if you’ve wondered how to create rounded corners on your graphics - wonder no more!
