Bedfordshire One-Act Drama Festival

So BATS (the drama group I’m a member of) entered two plays in the Bedfordshire One-Act Drama Festival 2006. Both were penned by our chairman, Andrew Jordan - one youth entry (directed by Andrew and Pauline) and one adult entry (directed by Andrew).

The youth entry (”The Way Home”) kicked off the festival and was very well performed and received on Thursday night. All five cast members did a great job and peaked at just the right time. Didn’t have much to get involved with there other than producing a Powerpoint presentation of a mobile phone that was used to flash up messages as the characters received them on their phones.

The adult entry (”I’m not a murderer - get me out of here!”) was on second on Friday night - I had a small part in this as the judge in what turns out to be a somewhat farcical courtroom play. Character names such as “Judge Mental”, “Berndt Fingus” and “Willie Nickett” should give you a fair idea of the tone of this play! Most of the cast seemed to think that we didn’t give such a polished performance as we had done in the past, but this didn’t stop Andrew walking away with two awards for “I’m not a murderer…” - Best Supporting actor for his portrayal of Willie Nickett, and the adjudicator’s award for his writing/direction of “I’m not a murderer…”.

Looks like we’ll be doing it again in June, at the Welwyn festival - best keep learning those lines…
