Some Revision

Flying Time: Today: 1:00 Total: 5:24

I flew again after a month away on Sunday and despite only 4 hours of training I was able to pick up fairly easily - this was quite gratifying at this stage, although I guess

Had a different instructor as my usual one was away for a month, which made for some differences, as well as the fact this was really a revision lesson rather than specifically covering anything new. Was quite pleased to find that the new instructor’s teaching style fitted in with my way of doing things - having said that she had a no-name brand headset that was *extremely* uncomfortable on my head and suffered from a bizarre compatability issue - I was unreadable on the radio but the intercom was working just fine.

Went through the A check with the instructor as I’d only gone through it once before fully. Startup was pretty uneventful, and other than the radio issues, we taxied to the hold for pre-takeoff checks and a quick rebrief on takeoffs, followed by a good takeoff and a good-ish climb…veered off runway heading quite a bit - need to keep that in check!

Passing by Milton Keynes we headed off to the east before turning north and heading towards Grafham Water. A quick revise of control effects en-route, together with copious amounts of climbing and descending. This was followed by a few 360 medium-level turns. Altitude was all over the place to begin with, but later ones were a little bit better! FREDA checks were OK, although I still tend to move off my reference point when aligning the DI and compass…

After a quick demonstration of stalls we rejoined the circuit via Stewartby - only to find the circuit the busiest I’ve ever seen it. There were at least 3 a/c ahead of us on base and downwind, with other a/c joining via Woburn and Stewartby too. All this == busy! A brief apology from my instructor and she takes control to take us in. We were following an a/c on final for a touch and go who seemed to spend forever on the runway - so much so that we were almost over the threshold before we got our landing clearance.

All-in-all, a very satisfying lesson!
