Last week was pretty bad. Work has been as manic as usual and we’re still a couple of people down - that and the director of our department has resigned and left on Thursday. I’ve found out that two more relatives of mine have cancer - hopefully treatable in both cases but things are still very early on.
However I think the saddest thing that happened was having to put our 1st cat Esme to sleep. The emergency vet thought it was a Thrombosis - a condition from which recovery is very slim, without having a 16-18 year old cat who suffers from hyperthyroidism and has a dodgy heart anyway. It was for the best, but that doesn’t make it easier especially as she was my first pet ever. Alice has written more here.
Goodbye Esme - we’ll miss you.

So Al and I went to see Dylan Moran on Friday at the Hammersmith Apollo. A fantastically good show, well up to the standard of his previous show at Vicar Street Dublin, which we’d seen on DVD.
As you’d expect, it was a typically rambling performance touching on a wide variety of subjects such as:
- How children prevent you from having more children by sleeping in your bed.
- Living in the country.
- How your mother lures you with nice things…AND THEN THE CAGE COMES DOWN!
- Dealing with kids’ questions - e.g. the name of the space between the teeth of combs, or the space under the kettle…
Fairly random if you see what I mean. The living in the country one was great:
Country Person: Well, you know old Mrs who works down at the post office.
You: No.
Country Person: Oh you must know them, their kid is friends with , etc etc.
You: No, I don’t.
Continues in this fashion for a while.
Country Person: Oh you must know them.
You: No, I really don’t!
Country Person: Well she’s dead.
Classic.

Not a lot’s been hapenning around here. Work seems to keep stealing my time away from me - of course there’s been a lot of holiday shift cover as it’s August. Looking forward to the team having a full complement in the office again!
Rehearsals for the latest show we’re putting on continue unabated. This is a production of Francis Durbridge’s “Suddenly At Home”, a bit of a murder thriller set in the early 70s. I seem to be able to remember most of my lines - this can only be a good thing!
Alice had another craft fair last week in Richmond - one that promised to be very err…promising but ultimately was a bit of a damp squib due to crappy organisation etc etc. Fortunately the next show is about 5 minutes walk from home, which’ll make life nice and easy!
Those who read Alice’s blog will know we’ve been trying for a baby for some time now. We’ve now been referred to Bourn Hall and a one hour meeting there yielded more information and sympathy than we’ve had from over a year with our NHS consultant. Good riddance to him - Bourn Hall can have my money for that kind of service!
Not had any flying lessons since the last entry. Starting to get withdrawl symptoms…especially as a friend of mine is meant to be flying in a Tiger Moth this weekend… damn you Richard, damn you to hell!

So myself, Alice, Tom and Tom’s partner Abi (and Abi’s mum!) all went to see the Divine Comedy at St. James’ Church, Piccadilly yesterday. A great time was had by all I think.
After meeting beforehand for a brief spot of dinner at Wagamama’s, we nipped around the corner to the church - only to find… THE QUEUE! Yep, the place was more-or-less deserted of DC fans before we ate, but afterwards it was pretty busy out there! Still, we took our place in the line and settled down to that great British pastime of sitting in a queue doing bugger-all.
Eventually we get in and settle (eventually) for some seats on the balcony area, which gave us a reasonable view. Unfortunately the acoustics up there weren’t as great as they supposedly were downstairs - but hey-ho… Eventually Neil and his cohorts came on to rousing cheers and applause…only to go straight into a very unfamiliar song. This is of course the problem with gigs to promote new albums - getting the balance right between old and new material.

My monthly train ticket to London ran out earlier this week and as I’m on a late shift, I can get away with getting daily off-peak tickets. Except that one day I forgot, and only remembered just as I was about to get on the tube, having travelled the 40 miles into London without a ticket. Oops.
So I go to the WAGN ticket office at King’s Cross and ask the very bored looking guy if he can give me a 1-day travelcard from Biggleswade. He says that the only way he could do that is to give me a £20 penalty fare.
“So, what’s to just stop me walking off, getting a single home tonight, and getting a tube-only ticket right now?”
“Absolutely nothing, sir.”
I walked off, bought my tube ticket and went on my way. It doesn’t exactly motivate one to be honest about these things though does it?

Long time, no post. I knew I’d never be able to find the time to even put the most cursory of posts on this thing…but hey ho.
Been busy busy. Just moved house - same town, bigger place. Moving from a 2 bed flat to 3 bed semi with a nice garden and a garage has been just great. With the new house we bought a new kitten - a really rambunctious little thing called Lucy whose claws are getting stronger by the day!
Moved office at work - now out at Canary Wharf which is a pain commute-wise, but *shrug* - it’s doable.
Just finished putting on a production with the local drama group. I’ve also just been cast as Baron Hardup in this year’s panto which is of course Cinderella.
Umm. What else. Not a lot. Usual rounds of going out to see shows - saw the Reduced Shakespeare Company’s new production in Bedford - nice to be able to see something and get home at a decent hour, unlike London…
And with that, time to find something to eat.

Hey all - sorry for the lack of posting in some time, but I’ve been busy as all hell.
Had a good new year - and then back to work! I got promoted to Senior Systems Administrator, which was pretty cool. Beyond that, work has been quite tiring and frustrating. Hopefully should be able to get onto some more interesting projects soon.
I’ve been quite involved in our local amateur theatre group (BATS - Biggleswade Amateur Theatre Society) and did a lot of backstage work for our production of Sleeping Beauty, which we put on at Stratton (my old school) in January. Lots of work with getting lights, scenery and staging all in order and then doing scenery on the nights of the performances.
Our next production is a 1-act play for the Bedfordshire Drama Festival, written by one of our long-time members. Al and I both have parts in it (mine very small, being my first stage role!). And after that, a bigger production for September, and then back to panto again for New Year 2006! Like I said, *busy*.
So….yeah. Busy time, but lots of fun!

Well, it’s Boxing Day (or St. Stephen’s day here in Ireland). I’ve been staying with my in-laws this Christmas, which has made a change - however its very weird not seeing my mum on Christmas day.
We’re both back home tomorrow though, so back to sorting the house out, ready for having relatives over on the 28th and 31st. After that a few days to sort myself out before new year and running a support shift on the 3rd, followed by back to work on the 4th.
The holiday season will be over sooo quickly! Ho well, the new year at work should pose some interesting projects which will keep me busy!

Urgh - not feeling at all good today. Feeling very warm (but don’t have a temperature), a bit achey and generally under the weather. Not good. I’m not in work today, and I’m on holiday tomorrow, so at least I’m not going to infect people… Time to finish off the Christmas shopping tomorrow.
